I´m a UX designer with 20 years of experience in graphic design. I have worked for small and large companies, advising clients from the conception of ideas to their implementation. Based on Strategic analysis, efficient User Flows, realistic Users Persona and functional Prototypes I propose fresh and individual solutions, so that each user experience is unique and memorable.

I was born on a Wednesday in November 1964 in Buenaventura, a large and sultry port city on the Colombian Pacific coast. There I finished primary school and part of high school. At the age of 14 I moved with my family to Cali, the largest city in our region. I graduated from high school and made one of the most important decisions of my life: I enrolled at the art school (1985) to become a graphic designer.

It was years of cold coffee, sleepless nights, and friends from whom I learned about vices and virtues, and who awakened my passion for music, typography, painting, theater and especially photography. After finishing my studies in 1991, I moved to the capital, as any self-respecting boy from the province does. There I faced the cold, the capitalist chaos and took my first job in one of the biggest advertising agencies “Sancho Saatchi & Saatchi”. It was a good and instructive experience and I learned how to work in the creative department of such an agency, got acquainted with stress, time pressure and the professionalism of my colleagues.

After this intense experience I took a half year break to find out if the world out there is really as big and strange as everyone claimed. To my surprise it turned out that it really was.
In 1997 I came to Berlin and stayed there. Every year I face the winter in Berlin again, but now together with my little family. It was years of survival training and also training to overcome nostalgia, but I passed it successfully. The following year I was lucky to get a job at the design agency ZFK-Berlin. It specializes in events and marketing for the music industry. This experience was very important for me and it brought back my fascination for design and music as inseparable forms of expression. Since then these two elements have been an integral part of my life.

In 2000 I took part in a training course to become a webmaster and learn the basics of HTML. After nine months of training and a few more months of practical experience (Outermedia, 2001) I bought my first Mac and started working from home for print media such as stamps, corporate identity and websites of clients like the Colombian Embassy, Oxfam, Pin AG and Postado Deutschland GmbH. Since 2015 I have been sharing my work as a freelancer with the Carnaval de las culturas de Berlin, where I am the official curator and stage manager.

In 2017 I joined Arvato/Bertlesmann’s team of social media content managers, where I had the opportunity to work as a team for Germany’s largest media group. An experience from which I learned a lot about user behavior in social networks, the handling of Big Data in large companies and its influence on marketing. At the end of this process I realized that I am a designer and I took the opportunity offered by the German employment office to do an apprenticeship that brought my skills up to date.

Taking the UX Designer course was a slow and deliberate decision, because I am aware of my age, but also that it is important to do it in a way that I am satisfied. It was a new process because it was online, with tutor, mentor and video calls. My brain almost burst when I learned how to use new technologies, interview users, learn new concepts, make prototypes, etc. In the end, it was all worth it, and here I am celebrating the journey and searching for new horizons with my portfolio under my arm.
